been to a presentation of danish artist katya sander.she is in bucharest doing a project about news anchors.the project is going to be showed at ICCA in may.
her project ''Monument for image production and image consumption'' that uses the newspaper as medium reminded me of another artist that i like that also works with newspapers.

different artists, different discourses, same medium.

"the mexican artist erick beltran (1974) has a notable fascination with language – with the graphic applications of language, and also with the economic and political motives that drive the producers and distributors of printed matter."

emosive (formerly e:sense) is a new service for mobile devices which allows capturing, storing and sharing of fleeting emotional experiences.

like this one even more for it reminds me of an octopus.
''Hug Shirt is a shirt that allows people to exchange the physical sensation of a hug over distance. Embedded in the shirt there are sensors that feel the strength of the touch, the skin warmth and the heartbeat rate of the sender and actuators that recreate the sensation of touch, warmth and emotion of the hug to the shirt of the distant loved one.''

the language connection

''This is an excerpt from an installment of The Yomiuri Shimbun's Educational Renaissance series. This part of the series, continued from last week, focuses on helping children develop communication skills.
OSAKA--Juku cram schools are basically for helping students catch up with school studies or pass entrance examinations. However, one juku chain has gone further by introducing a course to help its students improve their thinking skills through dialogue-based classes.

The course aims at helping children develop "full-scale" thinking skills that enable them to come up with flexible ideas.''

artists+architects

in Paris artists build architecture:
''A thematic exhibition,''Archipeinture'' intends to explore the different ways in which urban architecture and contemporary art tend to influence one another, including: the use of painting as an architectural form in public or private spaces; the effect of recent developments on the representation of the modern metropolis; the links between architecture and other mental or psychological spaces…''

and on the other part some architects build for art.

''The ideal acoustic form for a concert hall is a shoebox. And we have seen a lot of architects trying to make shoeboxes interesting, or to design interesting shoeboxes. We got rid of the shoe box.''

love art sex mental illness

recently read national geographic's love issue where at some point they say that when in love we behave like mental disturbed individuals.
found this article about the relation between mental illness art and sex.
and here it is this article about love and the brain activity.
makes me think of carsten holler:
"Carsten Holler holds a doctorate in biology, and he uses his training as a scientist in his work as an artist, concentrating particularly on the nature of human relationships. Viewer participation is the key to all of Holler's sculptures, but it is less an end in itself than a vehicle to informally test the artist's theories concerning human perception and physiological reactions. Equal parts scientific experiment and sensual encounter, Holler's works are most frequently devoted to his singular obsession-chemically analyzing the nature of human emotions. Solandra Greenhouse, a work created for this exhibition, is a garden filled the with the Solandra maxima vine, a plant that exudes pheromones capable of inducing amorous feelings. Coupled with strobe lighting intended to create a slight disorientation in the visitor, the experience of the Solandra Greenhouse is meant to recapitulate the physical effects of falling in love."

sinagogue***gas chamber aka hello my name is santiago sierra

"An artist invited Germans to come and be symbolically gased with car exhaust fumes in a former synagogue. Jewish leaders and media commentators say he is belittling the Holocaust and insulting its victims. But hundreds of people have lined up for the experience."

and here.
really liked aglomerari spontane's action
{ they won the best niche blog by cheating the contest and made this public in order to show that the contest could be tricked }
and for those who thought that their action was stupid, there's a story for you:

WELCOME TO FREE MANIFESTA
"Free Manifesta was a project for Manifesta 4, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany from May 25 to August 24, 2002. A place in Manifesta 4 was purchased for $15,099 in an ebay auction by New York artist Sal Randolph, and any artist who wished was invited to exhibit their work as part of Free Manifesta. Over 225 artists & groups participated in free public art projects of all kinds which took place around Frankfurt am Main as well as through the broadcast airwaves, telephone and mail systems and on the internet. Though FREE MANIFESTA officially ended with the close of Manifesta 4 on August 25, 2002, this site remains as a catalog of the show and as an access point for artists websites and contact information. empty revolution

saw this new manifesto from pulafashion.
of course there are key issues that the manifesto brings up but i'd rather not comment on it.
there are some questions though and when it comes to beauty issues there are always going to be.are you saying that matei is ugly? is ugly naspa? is he a hero because he is ugly? is he a hero because he is disabled? are we all ugly? do we need another hero? what is the cause, the point again for this revolution of yours?
some advice though: if you're going to make an infallible and strong manifesto against empty advertising and empty brands get a proper art director.
